Our Teachers

At Village Green we have assembled an extremely professional staff of Administrators, Teachers, Assistants and Specialists.

Our teachers exhibit their dedication through their constant compassion for the emotional well-being and intellectual advancement of their students.

Classrooms typically have two teachers, a Lead Teacher and a Co-Teacher, who together provide lower than average student-to-teacher ratios.  When Lead Teachers are hired, they are required to have a college degree in an education-related field as well as experience working with children.  Our Co-Teachers must have experience working with children, and many also have college degrees.

There is a strong emphasis on continuing education at the School.  We provide a week of training in August before the school year begins, during which staff learn the School's policies and procedures and educational best practices that help them to strengthen their lessons in the classrooms.  As the year progresses, teachers are encouraged to pursue continuing education outside of the school through programs offered by the Department of Social Services, local colleges and universities, and other organizations such as the Wolftrap Foundation.  Teachers are expected to share their learnings with their colleagues upon their return.

Village Green provides many opportunities for teachers to collaborate with and mentor their peers.  There are three meetings held monthly with our Preschool Staff.  The first is an All Staff Meeting, the second is a meeting amongst all of the Lead Teachers, and the third is a meeting between each Lead Teacher and their Co-Teacher.  The Childcare and School Age Childcare staff meet officially on a monthly basis, and nearly daily on a casual basis, to discuss ways of improving the children's experiences in the afternoon.  These meetings provide perfect opportunities to utilize the skills and knowledge of our highly experienced staff to better our programs.
