Student eligibility
Village Green admits students on a nondiscriminatory basis, without regard to sex, race, color, religion,
or national origin. Parents/guardians are required to tour the School before applying.
Admissions and registration
For currently enrolled Village Green students, re-admission for the upcoming fall starts immediately after
January conferences. New families interested in admission are asked to make an appointment for a tour of the
School. For this initial tour, parents should come without their child. New student applications are accepted
after completing the tour. In early February, new families who have submitted an application will be invited to
visit an individual class or come in for a group play date. After your child’s school visit, we will begin
processing new student applications. Notifications of acceptance and placement for returning students are
mailed out the first week in March. New families who miss the play date may arrange for a visit for their child
by calling for an appointment in early April.
General Placement
Village Green's careful placement into programs gives students an opportunity to develop in an environment
best suited to their particular needs and personality. Special placement requests should be made at the time
of application and may be accommodated after careful consideration.
Kindergarten Placement and Screening
Parents who are interested in enrolling their child in our Kindergarten Program should complete an
application and schedule request and provide background materials and test results from any prior school
experience. The Head of School is responsible for final placement.
Village Green's general policy is to place children in our kindergarten class based on their developmental or
behavioral age as well as their chronological age. This point of view requires that we view children as total
beings. The physical, social, emotional, and intellectual aspects of development depend on and support each
other. To determine a child’s appropriate placement, Village Green Day School may administer a Gesell Institute
Preschool Test of Developmental Readiness. The School will contact the parents of any child whose test results indicate a need for further
testing. Students who require remedial help with developmental skills may receive extra help in kindergarten class or they may be
counseled into our Junior Kindergarten Program. Kindergarten students are given the Metropolitan Readiness Test
in the spring prior to first grade.
