The school’s mission is to not only provide families with a higher quality of education that will allow their children to reach their full potential, but to uphold the belief that as teachers we are “not simply transmitters of knowledge but exemplars and guardians of behaviors and values as well.”

The strong bond that has developed over several years between Village Green and our families is built on trust, respect, caring and cooperation. To that end, the School’s reputation continues to be based not only on developing students’ minds, but reinforcing and upholding these important ethical values through honest, open and direct communication with our families.

The School's founder and president, Lynne Simmons, created Village Green Day School based on her many years of experience in early childhood education. The original School was founded in 1979, occupied space in the Village Center in Great Falls, VA, and moved to its current facility in 1985. The Lowes Island School opened in 1997 in Potomac Falls, Virginia.

We believe that children have the right to grow and develop in an environment that ensures their safety and welfare and meets their emotional and "whole child" needs. This environment should also provide them with opportunities to increase their curiosity and explore their world by means of high-quality, age-appropriate educational materials and activities. The highly qualified and nurturing staff provides each child with the guidance and care necessary for this growth and development to occur.

The School's philosophy is simply and explicitly explained by this old Chinese proverb:

When I hear, I forget,
When I see, I remember,
When I do, I learn.
